Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do
I forgot about that one time I shut myself out from the world (what’s new) and was hooked on E.L. James Fifty Shades series. I can go on all day about how the hopeless romantic in me fell in love with Anastasia’s character. Young twenty-something, English lit major, in love with the thought of love. Reading and writing is a lost art. Or maybe, I just wasn’t around the right people? For a long time, I thought I lacked creativity and I hated feeling like I couldn’t see the world the way everybody else did. Everyone made it look so easy, to paint a picture or design something…all I had were words. It wasn’t until I started talking to other people that I realized I had valuable information to contribute. I just absorbed information and spit it out differently. Words are fucking powerful, and they can make or break you.
One of my favorite quotes is from Fifty Shades of Grey, so besides being in love with Anastasia’s character and being inside her head…there was Christian Grey. He was dedicated, had commitment, and promise. He was basically a BAMF. He knew how to motivate and inspire people, and is the type of leader I aspire to be. I struggle with talking to people everyday, but damn if they only knew what was going on in my head behind my smile.
“You’re very young to have amassed such an empire. To what do you owe your success?” I glance up at him. His smile is rueful, but he looks vaguely disappointed.
“Business is all about people, Miss Steele, and I’m very good at judging people. I know how they tick, what makes them flourish, what doesn’t, what inspires them, and how to incentivize them. I employ an exceptional team, and I reward them well.” He pauses and fixes me with his gray stare. “My belief is to achieve success in any scheme one has to make oneself master of that scheme, know it inside and out, know every detail. I work hard, very hard to do that. I make decisions based on logic and facts. I have a natural gut instinct that can spot and nurture a good solid idea and good people. The bottom line is, it’s always down to good people.”
“Maybe you’re just lucky.” This isn’t on Kate’s list – but he’s so arrogant. His eyes flare momentarily in surprise.
“I don’t subscribe to luck or chance, Miss Steele. The harder I work the more luck I seem to have. It really is all about having the right people on your team and directing their energies accordingly. I think it was Harvey Firestone who said ‘the growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.’
Keep your minds open. This book is more than sex, money, or pretty, shiny things. It’s vulnerability, it’s torture. It’s self-exploration. It’s a love story. We forget how difficult it is to add another person into our lives. We are creatures of habit. Our mind and hearts are very similar to our bodies natural line of defense against disease, when something doesn’t belong: we fight it. Weapons are not limited to objects, they include words. Words, and love -they move you from the minute you wake up until you sleep. That’s power.
