WWYD? What would you do-with $656 million dollars? Last Friday, the lottery hit a record breaking amount and what else has the power to bring people together and break them apart: money. lots and lots of money.
My friends, who I would characterize as optimists and dreamers, gathered with their lottery tickets in hand in front of the TV counting down till’ 11PM as if it was new year’s eve. Friday was memorable in so many ways. It was the first time I’ve seen people patient enough to wait in line. It was the first time I heard people talk about their dreams and WOW talk about imagination! For a long time, I thought we were living in a world of pessimists. Just sitting around, living, passing time until their last day. Who knew a couple bucks could make us think we were invincible?
When 11:05 hit and I let people’s feet touch the ground again I thought about why people think they can’t achieve the things they think they can with a couple extra bucks in their pockets? Unlike my friends, my dreams didn’t change. I still wanted all the same things and I still wanted them old-fashioned way: through hard work. because NOTHING feels better than earning something. and the only lottery worth winning would be the one giving me more time. We all know money can’t buy happiness, but time heals everything.
