I’m sorry I’m more of a reader than a picture viewer. I’m that person that would rather read books at Barnes than the magazines. Shit, I’m that person that will read the articles in the magazines and skim through the photos. This is the exact reason why I hate tumblr. It’s nothing but lazy blogging to me. We can all like things, but I’d rather say so than ‘reblog’ something said by someone else, even if they did say it well. I’ll admit, it is my lack of ability to appreciate art. Words will always carry more of a meaning to me than a photo. So, I wanted to thank other “writers” or bloggers. These are the people that help me realize that life is only as hard as I make it.
John Mayer. I couldn’t tell you how many years I’ve been following him but a specific time in my life is when he was working on Battle Studies. I never knew how well I could relate to someone until he started talking about Battle Studies. I’ve always been a fan of his music, but that album cuts deep. It’s not only the album, it was the process to create it, too. and shit, I’m still looking for answers to questions through this album…and this shit, too.
Bobby Kim. REGRETTABLY I didn’t start reading the hundreds blog daily until 2009. I started following Bobby “Hundreds” on twitter and that’s what made me want to read the blog. A LOT of people have their opinions on what the hundreds has done to streetwear and the “hype.” However, I was more impressed with finding out about the law school graduates. I have 3 reasons for why I LIKE The Hundreds but more importantly the creative director and co-founder of The Hundreds. 1) Humor If you aren’t already a follower, he will surely make you laugh. He has wit, he’s clever, and sometimes I go over his twitter time line when I know I haven’t had my laugh of the day yet. For those of you outside the hype, the things he has to say are inspiring. 2) Passion The reason his dream came to life is because he KEPT WITH IT. He’s part of the reason why I’m keeping up with my blog. 3) Confidence I think it takes a lot for someone not to come off arrogant when talking about something they worked so hard to create. Bobby Hundreds does this with grace. He himself said “I’m a fan of the hundreds, also.” It’s true, I believe it 100%. If you’re not going to be confident or even a fan of your life’s work how can you expect to brand and market it to other people?
His daily life is interesting to me. His sense of humor is the best part of it all especially since some people forget that we only live once. We really should laugh more and have fun.
Jessica Gueco. I’ve already met her, but I’d like to meet her again. Years ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. We met at a Hellz sample sale at Reed Space. Till’ this day, I used to think it was all a coincidence but the more and more I think about it, it was fate. There was a reason I ended up in New York and out of all the places to be, I stepped foot in a place that would change my entire outlook on life. I had read her blog for a while and it never clicked with me that it was “her.” Fast forwarding to present times, a lot of the people and organizations i’m involved with somehow trace back to that day.
Mark Zuckerberg. When I say this, I mean the Mark Zuckerberg from livejournal. I’d just like to even be in the same room as such brilliance. After reading Mezrich’s book, who wouldn’t want to meet THE accidental billionaire himself?
