Losing my voice in everything I’m reading. So, let’s talk about summer…summer LOVE. Growing up, there was this thing called “xanga” Usually, people would write about their days. booooring. Fast forward to recent times, someone in the social network world created “tumblr” just as boring! But what do these things have in common? Somewhere, in another place, and possibly at the same time, someone else is going through the same things we are. Plain and simple, as people we seek to relate to someone because well, that’s what a relationship is.
Some of us are in love with the thought of love or being in love, some of us want to be in love, some of us want to capture love, and some of us are flat out BLINDED by love. What has the internet has taught me about “love”? Nothing. and now that summer is approaching all I can think about is the massive amounts of love related concepts on my news feed. I really think summer and love do not mix. Summer is more synonymous with relaxation, laughter, and sunny days at the beach. Love is more unpredictable and by the end of the season non-existent and then depressing. I would like to meet the mind that thought “summer loving” was a good idea.
My summer love has and always will be something related to my life’s work…AS IT SHOULD BE. I guess when you’re in high school, you have more “time” to deal with inconsistent things like relationships. The only things on my to-do lists then were getting into the right college or university and applying for a scholarship a day…and being on time to class. For those of us that think there aren’t enough hours in the day, time is priceless.
I want to fall in love with school and work, again. Maybe even schoolwork too. Summer classes are something I’m not a stranger of. That’s what I think people should do this summer, do what you want to do. Do things independently. Read a book. No, NOT, The Notebook. I’m not saying you should stick your head in the textbooks either. but for once, quit trying to find yourself in other people. Challenge yourself to fall in love with yourself. God knows I am.
